Conviction: LOW
An emerging-market fintech investment company trading at a wide ~44% discount to a fair-value NAV (Creditas, Konfío, TransferGo and other private fintech stakes). The discount offers upside if marks hold and narrow — but private/EM marks are uncertain and the discount can persist. BUY, low conviction.

Thesis

VEF (Vostok Emerging Finance) is a closed-end investment company holding minority stakes in private emerging-market fintech companies — notably Creditas (Brazil), plus Konfío, TransferGo, Juspay and others. Because the portfolio is carried at fair value, IFRS equity equals reported NAV, so the metric is the price-to-NAV discount: the shares trade at ~0.56× NAV — a ~44% discount.

A discount that wide embeds real skepticism about private/EM fintech marks and the path to realisation. The upside is a combination of marks proving conservative, portfolio companies maturing toward IPO/exit, and the discount narrowing; the risk is mark write-downs, EM/currency stress and a persistently wide discount with no near-term catalyst.

Valuation · reverse-DCF & scenarios

On the NAV frame, fair value is NAV per share (~SEK 3.67) less a normalised discount. We anchor the base at a ~30% discount (vs the current ~44%), implying ~SEK 2.5, with the realisation path the key variable. The NOPAT reverse-DCF is invalid here (investment income is not operating NOPAT).

Base SEK 2.5 (+21%, ~32% discount) on a modest discount-narrowing; bull SEK 3.2 (+55%, discount narrows toward ~13% on marks/exits); bear SEK 1.6 (−22%, mark write-downs and a wider ~56% discount).

Key drivers

1. Wide NAV discount

~44% discount to a fair-value NAV — the core of the thesis if marks hold and the discount narrows.

2. Creditas anchor

A large stake in Creditas (Brazilian secured-lending fintech) anchors the portfolio.

3. Maturing portfolio

Portfolio companies maturing toward IPO/exit could crystallise value and narrow the discount.

4. Buybacks

Discount-narrowing buybacks (NAV-accretive at a wide discount) support per-share NAV.

5. EM-fintech structural growth

Underlying EM digital-financial-services growth supports the holdings.

Key risks
Conclusion

VEF offers a wide ~44% discount to a fair-value EM-fintech NAV — genuine upside if marks hold and the discount narrows, but with real private/EM mark and persistence risk. BUY, low conviction; base target SEK 2.5 (+21%), sized small for the mark/realisation uncertainty.

Portfolio maturation toward exits and NAV-accretive buybacks are the catalysts; mark write-downs and a persistently wide discount are the principal risks.
